Study Kit

Study Kit connects Monash Moodle and Ed to the AI app on your computer: Claude, Codex (also inside the ChatGPT desktop app), Cursor and others. After setup you just ask:

  • “What’s due this week?” Moodle deadlines, work you may have missed, unfinished Ed lessons, the latest announcements.
  • “Anything new on Ed? Has anyone replied to my question?”
  • “Which week of FIT2102 covered monads? Which slide deck, which page?”
  • “What does the A2 spec ask for?” “What’s my current grade in FIT2109?”

Answers come from your real Moodle and Ed data, with sources like “Workshop 5 Slides, page 25”. The AI finds the right file and reads only the pages it needs, so you do not download PDFs and upload them again.

  • The MCP server is for your AI app. Moodle and Ed are behind Okta and MFA, so the AI cannot get in by itself. The server lets it look things up in the middle of a conversation.
  • The monash command is for you. It does what only a person should do (install, pass MFA, paste the Ed token) and works without any AI when you are out of usage. monash todo answers in about a second.

All tools are read-only. Study Kit never submits assignments, attempts quizzes or posts on Ed. Course files, the login and the database live on your computer and never pass through a third-party server.

  • A computer (macOS, Windows or Linux). Phone apps cannot reach it: they only connect to MCP servers on the internet, and Study Kit runs on your computer so your login stays there.
  • An AI app that supports local MCP. Tested with Claude Desktop (download) and Claude Code. Codex, the ChatGPT desktop app, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Gemini CLI can connect with one command but are not tested yet, see Other AI apps.
  • Chrome, Edge or Brave, used only for the Moodle login window. The Edge that comes with Windows is fine.
  • A Monash account.
